I wrote this poem last year before the start of the World Series .... Time to post again

Batter Up!
When summer fun has ended
And autumn leaves begin to fall
Baseball takes the center stage
For the greatest show of all
Frenzied fans will pack the stands
They scream and shout and cheer
It's time for the World Series
The best games of the year
Fans keep track on scorecards
Pitch by pitch and run by run
Through each of the nine innings
Or 'till the game is done
They boo the home plate umpire
Its three strikes and you're out!
No spit balls, scuff balls, mud balls
Umpires must leave no doubt
And when the games have ended
The champion has been crowned
They know they've been a part of something
Something quite profound

wow helen, thanks for this - great poem!
(we were all celebrating big time here last night after the cards beat the brewers.......texas here we come!)
What a great poem! May I repost it on my blog (giving you credit, of course)?
I just don't know if I can pull for the Cardinals - I'm a Braves & Reds fan you know :)
Helen, you are such a good poet, and do you know it..........
I don't watch or root for baseball games, but ...my beloved brother loved baseball.... And I love hearing the calls and sounds...reminds me of him.
Let's Play!
Ah, distinctly I remember the immortal words of Ernest Thayer:
The Outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day:
The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play.
I understand baseball is firmly entrenched in the America psyche. Not so much up here in Canada, where we prefer hockey and lacrosse.
Wonderful poem, Helen. Totally delightful! Especially timely for the clash between the Cardinals and Rangers. Busch league teams, indeed.
